CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION - 14th January 2021 update

ASHTON GATE

The notification of eligibility is now being done by the Government and so people are starting to receive letters notifying them that it is their turn.  If you have received an NHS letter to book a COVID vaccination at Ashton Gate, please read it carefully to find out how to book your appointment - these appointments CANNOT be booked by anyone at the Surgery.  If you do not wish to travel to Ashton Gate, and would like to be vaccinated in Yate or at the Surgery here, please wait for us to contact you.  The letter gives you a choice of either making an appointment at Ashton Gate (good point - open all day with plentiful supply.  Bad point - a fair way to travel) or at the surgery (good point - easy to get to, Bad point - not always got vaccine available).  You can make your choice dependent on your circumstances.

PLEASE do not phone the surgery as patients with urgent medical needs are being prevented from getting through.  We will post regular updates on the website so always look here first.

CLINICS IN YATE

We are working with Yate practices to roll out our Covid-19 Vaccination programme and had our first clinic on 19th December. We are all working together as we all feel pooling our resources will help us in the task.  The Pfizer vaccine is very fragile so we are using West Walk surgery as the vaccination centre but the staff at Wellington Road are involved as well. We are currently contacting patients in Priority Tier 2 - patients aged 80 and over and have vaccinated over half of this group.  When we have finished vaccinating this group, we will then start on Priority Tier 3 - patients aged 75-79.  These priorities for vaccination are determined by the Government. Patients will be contacted directly as soon as there is an appointment available for them.

Please see the leaflets below:

Information for Older Adults about Covid Vaccine

Why am I having to wait for my Covid vaccination?

Priority order

We have been advised to strictly stick to the priority list given by the Government. Age is the biggest risk for serious disease from Covid and so priority is our oldest patients and those that provide healthcare for them.

Local clinics in Yate are taking place at West Walk Surgery in Yate Shopping Centre and NOT at Wellington Road Family Practice  Please do not come to the surgery for your COVID 19 vaccination.  There is parking available at Courtside Surgery and other car parks throughout Yate Town Centre and there are signs to West Walk Surgery.

We are working hard to organise vaccinations, and we are open for important non-covid healthcare matters. Our ability to answer individual questions about Covid guidelines/ work/ general vaccination questions is very limited so please do not call in about this if information can be found elsewhere such as the Goverment Website.

OXFORD VACCINE

We expect to received our first delivery next week and intend to hold our first clinic in the surgery on Saturday, 23rd January for patients in Tier 2 (aged 80 and over) and patient-facing healthcare workers (not key workers).  We hope to be able to take appointment bookings by the early part of next week.  We have a list of all the patients we need to vaccinate so we will be getting in touch in plenty of time and no one will be forgotten.

The staff here have been working their hardest to provide this service in a situation that is constantly changing - this includes many weekends since mid December.  When all patients in Tier 2 have been vaccinated we will start on Tier 3.  We have been lucky so far in that our supplies have not been cancelled, but there may well be a pause in South Glos while other parts of the country catch up.

Please keep asking questions but don't phone the surgery about appointments just yet as we cannot give you a definite answer and it blocks the phone lines for other people.

please continue to follow the Government's advice about washing hands, covering your face and maintaining a 2 metre distance from everyone.

Waiting for Surgery:  If you are waiting for surgery at either North Bristol Trust or one of the United Hospitals Bristol hospitals, you may find the leaflet in the Information section of the website useful.

**BEWARE**:  Vaccination to protect patients against Coronavirus is free.  We have heard reports of fraudsters targeting patients purporting to arrange a vaccination but then asking for bank details and taking payment.  This is a total fraud - do not give your bank details to anyone.

2020 FLU SERVICE - VACCINE AVAILABLE

If you are Over 65, in an At-Risk group, a Carer, pregnant or aged over 50 and would like a vaccination to protect you and your family and friends against influenza, please contact the surgery without delay.  The practice has some vaccine still available and will arrange a convenient appointment.

Even if you have previously declined an invitation and have now changed your mind, you can still have a vaccination.  Please contact the surgery.

With the pressure in hospitals and in the community it is very important that we all protect ourselves this winter.

GP Patient Survey results 2020 - BEST SURGERY IN SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE, BRISTOL AND NORTH SOMERSET

Wellington Road Family Practice was rated as the best practice for the FOURTH consecutive year in South Gloucestershire, Bristol and North Somerset.

Every year a GP Practice patient survey is carried out. The results of the 2020 survey have just been published. Wellington Road Family Practice has scored higher than average in every area surveyed. 98% of Wellington Road Family Practice patients who responded to the survey, described their overall experience of Wellington Road as good; the national average overall experience was 82%. GP Practices are judged on access to your GP service, making an appointment, your experience of your most recent appointment, your health as well as your overall experience. To achieve these excellent results for the fourth year running is outstanding, encouraging and a real boost to morale, especially as we have experienced a difficult year with sickness amongst the team.

Our aim is always to provide high quality, personalised care and we are delighted that the response from our patients yet again is so positive.

A very big THANK YOU on behalf of the whole team to all our patients who took the time to respond to the survey.
